Documentary Wedding Photography, what is that? It’s a mind-set, a philosophy, how I would approach your day. I believe that if something is staged, then it has no meaning at all, no matter how good the photo looks. If a moment is captured, without stopping, posing, or any interaction from myself, then that photo will have genuine sentimental value. So for almost the entire day, to shoot in a documentary style, I need you to forget I am there, just enjoy your day and let events flow naturally. I will be observing and capturing moments as they happen in my signature style. Do you do family group shots? Yes. I have mastered doing these quickly so it doesn’t eat too much into your time realaxing and having fun with family and friends. 8 groups takes me approx 10-15 minutes. How long do you photograph at a wedding? This is entirely up to you. I offer different lengths of coverage depending on what you need. You can have me to just cover the ceremony to the start of the meal, or from the grooms round of gold in the morning to carriages at the end of the night. I particularly like photographing early, and the later parts as these are not your typical wedding moment. I love to shoot anything that is different. How far do you travel to weddings? As far as I am needed. Half my weddings are in the north-west, the other half are up and down the country, including Scotland, Wales and London. If I need to travel further than 100 miles then I ask for a nights accommodation the day before the wedding to ensure I arrive without traffic issues and fresh legs. I have done and available for weddings abroad. difficult conditions How long does it take to receive our photos after our wedding day? It depends on how many weddings I have photographed just before yours, but it usually takes between 4 and 6 weeks. I have the option of 7 day rush processing for an extra cost (when possible). How many photos do we get? There is no limit to the number of photos you will receive, but usually it is between 400 and 500 – everyone fully edited to the highest possible standard. Can we print the photos? Absolutely! You receive all the 400+ fully edited images via digital download with permission to use them for personal use. Share the gallery link and password with anyone anywhere in the world and they will be able to view and download the images to share and print themselves. There is also a specilist app for iOS and Android which is the best way to view and download your images for tablets or mobile. Do you have back-up equipment? – just in case. YES! This is so important in case something stopped working. I carry three professional cameras with a variety of professional lenses. In the car I also have back-up lenses and photography essentials such as flashes, batteries and memory cards. How do we book you? On receipt of a contract and a £300 deposit, your day is officially booked and I will turn away any other interest for it.documentary wedding photography How do you deal with low-light and/or bad weather conditions? In 3 essential ways – using a professional camera; more importantly, using professional lenses; and even more importantly than that, as a professional photographer having the experience to adapt to these situations quickly as not to disrupt your day and to continue to capturing beautiful photos. What if I don’t like my photo taken? This is normal, don’t worry. Some people feel uncomfortable or don’t like their photo taken. They look comfortable and natural in my wedding galleries because of my natural, unobtrusive style. A pre-wedding or engagement shoot can help you relax and give you a good understanding of how I work, but not essential at all. How do you cover the groom and bride preparations in the morning? Us guys are lucky as it usually just takes us a few minutes to get ready. So I typically start with the guys in the morning for around 20 or 30 minutes, then go to the bridal preparations for the remainder of the time. If this means the guys get ready a little earlier than they would have liked, they can de-jacket/tie after if they wish. Do I need a second photographer? Usually no. The only time I'd need to use a second shooter is if the groom is getting ready too far from the bride or for the large Jewish and Asian weddings when religious aspects are happening at the same time in different places. As described above in most of cases I can easily cover groom and bride preparations myself. Do you photograph details such as dress and shoes? Yes, but naturally. I’m going to show off the dress and shoes as part of the day, not as a ‘posed’ photo, and certainly not hung from a tree. I want to show off the dress detail whilst you are wearing it, the same for your shoes. This then has more meaning. I ask you hang your dress up somewhere near you are getting ready and it will naturally feature in the photos as the day is unfolding. My friend has a good camera, surely he can be my wedding photographer for less money? He could, but whether its on your wedding day, or when you see your photos, or years down the line, you will regret it!
