Pre-wedding engagement photography in Northamptonshire | Kayla and Ben
How did we manage to turn a “Blair Witch spot” into lovely Pre-wedding Photos !!
I’m so happy that we are now again allowed to do pre-wedding and engagement photography. I can’t even describe how alive I feel again, being able to do what I love the most – Shooting Love means the world to me. After spending way too long in lockdown, like most of us, I suffered really badly on daily a basis. Being a wedding photographer must be one of the most amazing professions out there. Spending the whole day with brides and grooms who are celebrating one of the best days of their life and being able to capture it all in my own unique documentary way. The narrative is captured not only for the wedding couple and their guests but even more so for all the next generations to follow. To be in that environment surrounded by love, emotions and happiness is what drives me and keeps me happy and motivated, willing to work extra hard to constantly improving my craft.
Pre-wedding engagement photoshoots are giving me full creative freedom to explore all the ways of capturing those natural moments between the engaged couple.
After March 2020 all of this has been taken of me, leaving me professionally empty inside. Fortunately, I have the most amazing family – my gorgeous wife who is my Rock and my biggest supported as well as my two – most energetic daughters who kept me actively on my toes during the whole of lockdown, however, I couldn’t stop feeling there’s something missing !!! I missed “Shooting Love”, I missed the interaction with my lovely couples, I missed being part of their stories and being able to document events with my photographs.
All of those emotions are now coming back to me, and although it’s not weddings yet, I started to do the pre-wedding photoshoots.
“Latzo’s infectious energy and friendly nature was everything we wanted in our photographer, and this was clear from the second we met – it was just like meeting up with an old friend! He had a great sense of humour, made us feel totally relaxed in front of the camera (and believe me we felt awkward at times!) and whilst he was really professional knowing exactly what and where would make a great shot, we all had such a laugh and so much fun doing it”

Ben and Kayla | Pre-wedding engagement photoshoot
Kayla and Ben’s wedding was originally planned to happen in July at one of my favourite wedding venues Shustoke Barns, however, due to the global pandemic, this has been now postponed to September next year. I really feel for all of the couples who are having to postpone their big days this year. Wedding planning should be an exciting experience and it’s normally a natural way of building excitement leading towards the big day. This unfortunately wasn’t the case for most of the couples, the world is full of uncertainty and chaos and it’s really difficult to get excited about the future with constantly changing rules.
One of the best ways to reset and get that excitement flowing again is to get a pre-wedding engagement photoshoot booked. Not only do you get to spend an hour or two with your photographer where you can have a good catch up and revise all the new plans, but you’ll get a set of images filled with love and your own unique personalities. I remember initially Kayla mentioning that Ben is a little bit apprehensive about having his pictures taken and always feels awkward. Most of us “mere mortals” don’t feel comfortable when we are put on the spot and feel we need to pose for pictures. Unsurprisingly on most of our pictures, we end up with our standard “let’s get this out of the way” smile !!! Which is not how I want my couples to feel, especially not on their wedding day. From the minute I meet with my couples I never pretend anything I’m not, and I am expecting exactly the same from them. The sooner my couples realise “I am just a guy who is willing to bust a gut and even make a total fool of myself” just to make them completely relaxed, the sooner we can start capturing those amazing, natural, full of love images which don’t look posed but represent them who they are.
Are you worried you’ll feel awkward during your pre-wedding engagement photography session?
Before we started to shoot, Kayla explained “Ben always feels awkward on the pictures, so I’m really hoping for one good image 🙂 ” I was determined to exceed their expectations and promised that I am confident to deliver at least two great pictures :)! What do you think? Have I delivered ;)? My personal favourite ones are the first and the last ones, this location has been named by Kayla as a “Blair Witch” spot !!! We’ve definitely overpowered the spookiness by the loveliness and brought lots of heartwarming light into this dark place! Now when the pre-wedding photo shoot is over I really can’t wait to photograph Kayla and Ben’s wedding day at Shustoke Barn.
