Amazing destination wedding in Menorca.
I always consider myself to have one of the best jobs in the world, and it’s an added bonus that it takes me to many wonderful places in the world too. When Emma and Louis asked me to be their wedding photographer for their destination wedding in Menorca, it was an offer I couldn’t refuse – especially since I had come highly recommended from Emma’s brother who had chosen me for their wedding photography in England earlier that year. I was already looking forward to spending more time with their fantastic family.
This destination wedding took place at the Rural Hotel & Restaurant Alcaufar Vell – an olive-tree enclosed Mediterranean haven in the beautiful Menorcan countryside, only a winding road away from the island’s crystal clear beaches. Emma’s dad lives in Menorca and knew the area well enough to help the couple uncover this absolute gem; as a wedding photographer, half my work is already done when couples choose a wedding venue as full of charm and character as this one!
The stunning, rustic setting really suited the relaxed atmosphere for Emma’s bridal preparation, with both mums and her bridesmaids at the venue – and then it was a quick dash to photograph the Louis’s lively preparation taking place in a private villa nearby! When covering destination weddings where detailed planning is needed, I usually like to bring a second shooter with me (my very skilled and hard working wife, Lori) to make sure that not a moment is missed from start to finish.
Blessed with the Menorcan heat and September sunshine beating down on us, I took such joy from capturing the couple and their guests against the glorious golden backdrop of the 18th century farmhouse.
Magical moments from the ceremony were shot in the unique ‘jardi del ullastres’ olive garden, with dappled shade cast over us by 100 year old wild olive trees.
After toasting the new Mr and Mrs Borman with ice cold beer and Sangria (Menorcan style!) it was time for the couple and their guests to head down to their evening venue, Dinky Bar, as sunset fell on the beach. As a wedding photographer it is my skill to prioritise your amazing sunset portraits before we lose the fast-fading light – something we were able to do brilliantly for Emma and (Groom).
As the couple and their guests partied through until midnight, we continued to capture every last moment of this destination wedding’s Menorcan magic. In fact, Lori and I were both so spellbound by the place that we decided to stay another couple of days to do some exploring; as it stands, I’m pretty sure that’s where I would like to spend my retirement years (ice cold beer in hand!).
